While we're at it

Here's another one to add to the list: August Rush. Some of the themes were a little silly, but overall, it was a clean, feel-good flick. The story is about a boy who gets separated from his mother at birth (she thinks he died in a miscarriage) and his journey to find her and his father. He feels a deep connection to them through music and that is how he tries to reach out to them.

It helps that I really love music, especially classic guitar, and enjoy a good soundtrack. Funny, there are more clean flicks out there than you would think.

  1. I love this movie!!!! Robin Williams is a little weird in it but the music is awesome!!! Another great one to add to your video library.

  2. I do have to admit though, that all though it is good, it's a little far fetched.

  3. There are so many movies out there I haven't watched. SPEAKING of movies- Anyone out there seen the new Harry Potter? I wanted to go see it last week but couldn't pull it off. I have a ward memebr and her hubby HOPEFULLY coming to watch the tribe Sat. Night...now if I just don't sleep through it.

Havent seen Harry Potter yet, I want to really really badly!!! looks super good.
Other good movies... Well I dont know if any of you have seen the Fountain? That is Jeff's favorite movie. well one of them. Its different. But I enjoyed it. I cried in it... but then I cry in a lot of movies.
I'm gonna have to get a list of movies that my mom has, she has some good ones i usted to watch all the time when I was a kid.

  5. I saw Harry Potter last Saturday. It was good. I have to admit that there's a bit too much "snogging" and not enough "people blowing up" for my taste. But then again, that's my taste.....

  6. Snogging- who's snogging? There is too much stuff in the book to waste it on that, isn't there? Doesn't the writer/director know that we don't go to the movie for romance and snogging, we go to watch the wizards "wizarding". Why do people think that we need a few make out scenes to make it a good movie- BLAH!

  7. Well, I rather enjoyed almost all aspects of the movie. I thought the relationships added quite a lot of humor to the movie and were valuable. And seriousely, do we really want to complain about kissing when every other movie has full blown sex scenes? I'll take the kissing over the alternative.

  8. I agree that there could be worse things, but when you sacrifice tons of time watching Ron his ladies instead of watching things blow up and other coll things happen, it is somewhat dissappointing.

  9. I agree that adding things about relationships can be good in a movie but I'm really not into watching a bunch of akward teenagers make out. I haven't seen the movie though so it might be alright. Has any one seen Eagle Eye?

  10. Greg loves to snogJuly 26, 2009 at 6:03 PM

Hayley and I went to Harry Potter (thanks, Mom for watching our babies) and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is amazing how much better 20-year-olds act like 17-year-olds than 18-year-olds act like 16-year-olds. The actors and actresses have a clearer grasp on their characters and the actual emotions of teenagers laden with the task of combating an supremely evil wizard.

As for the snogging, WHAT ARE WE, THREE YEARS OLD? I've seen more kissing in Church films (anyone seen Legacy?). Anyway, well placed kissing can add enjoyable humorous diversions or can establish important emotional connections. What is a movie without caharacters that interact in intimate ways? Oh, and kissing does not inundate the movie; the scenes are sparse and brief.

Don't let mush deter you. The movie is good.

    No Eagle Eye watching here.

  11. I've seen Eagle Eye. In fact, renting it was the last purchase I made with my debit card before I lost my wallet. . . anyway, the movie had a decent plot line that ended up turing out much like i-robot. Shila Buff does well as a type of character I haven't seen hime do before. Really, the end is kind of dumb though. They defeat the enemy in a really retarded way. When the climax isn't good, it degrateds the whole movie.
Basic plot line: an unrelated guy and girl are both contacted through the phone and told by an unknown female that they must act in accordance with her wishes or they/their families will be killed. It becomes aparent whoever is on the other line has immense power through electronic networking, having the ability to control and track anyone's cell phone, Any TV monitor hooked into the system, and even control mass transit systems. You find out that the person wants this guy and girl to assasinate certain government officials and other sinister things.
So ya, there it is. If you know of better options, it's not a movie I'd pick first, but if you're unsure about other options, get it.

  12. Glad to know that I haven't missed a ton by missing out on Eagle Eye. I am sure we'll get caught up on our movies some year. As for snogging in H.P. Glad to hear that it's not over the top. I don't mind it when that is the plot line, they do it tastefully, etc. I thought when we were talking "snogging" we were saying major makeout scene, which doesn't fit with my imagination.

Speaking on Snogging- we were watching what I thought was a totally innocent "malcom in the middle" on Nickelodian yeaterday. Haven't watched it before, but it flipped on with 20 min. left in the episode and my kids wanted to see what it was. AHHHH! At the very end some girl yells at the main character (who has spent the episode trying to be cool as a Freshman on the first day of school)- NO, I will NOT have sex with you again. and then all the sub characters are shown whispering to each other "he had sex, she is such a slut, sex, sex sex!" Blair and I are wide eyed looking at eachother trying to figure out damage control. If we hurry and turn it off then they'll pick up on something is wrong and Brooke will really "think" about it and ask all sorts of ???'s with the other kids there. Needless to say, we'll never watch THAT show again, and we happily turned on Sponge Bob, who I think is a little bit silly and I hated up until now, but i think that I prefer the stupid innocence of him!

  13. holly crap! That super upsets me. Like, I would totally write to Neckelodian if I were you. That is repulsive. That makes me decide even more that I don't want cable in my house when I have kids.

  14. Brian thats what I was just going to say!!! Jen you really should write to them! I'm serious, that would really upset me too. Some of these "kid shows" just seem too... PG-13. I remember watching the good shows when I was a kid. the cool cartoons. Bugs Bunny, Road Runner, PopEye, Yogi Bear, the Jetsons ..., I could go on!!! All those good old cartoon shows. I've watched some of these cartoons that kids watch, and some of them are horrible! I agree with you Brian I would almost not want to have cable in my house when I have kids.

  15. The moral of the story for me is- if your kids are watching TV you better be in the same room (or listening range) and know what they are watching. The kids are going to watch stuff at other places that they shouldn't, so it's good that we can talk with them now about what is and IS NOT appropriate, but at some time they are going to have to make thier own choices. As for cable- we love having the little kids shows that they can watch and I have to have my TV time at night when my brain is dead...so I am not willing to give it up completely. We just don't watch tons and are pretty controlled about what we watch. Most of the time, apparently this one snuck past me.
FUNNY THOUGH_ is the "Up with Bob" commercials. Brant LOVES them. Mom, why is Bob SO Happy- I want to be Happy like Bob, he's UP with life! Oh, when he gets older that is going to be SUCH a great joke. OH, and DVR's are great, we can fsst forward, pause or delete anything we might find questionable. Great for those "scary" movie commercials that freak even me out.

  16. OH my gosh!!! Thats so funny about Brant.
bahaha! I cant stop laughing. Oh he's so sweet an innocent. Lol, well I've said things like that when I was younger, had no idea what certian things meant and I would either say them all the time... and yeah you get the picture. OOPS! :o) haha oh cute.
