So, for all of you boys that are in school and super-duper smart- and all of you other people who have more time and knowledge then I do
Answer Quick
Influenza Type A has been around forever, right?
The CDC is now saying that any version (99.6%) of Influenza Type A has some sort of the H1N1 flu in it. Sounds like they are going to classify all flu cases as Swine Flu for reporting purposes. I just spent 20 minutes on their web site, not believing the news report, but that is what it seems they are saying. I am a little confused, since the "regular influenza A" averages 36.000 deaths a year- way more then this H1N1 has as of yet. SO_ will they now blame all flu deaths on H1n1? I'm frustrated that last week they said that it doesn't look like H1N1 has mutated and that the vaccine's will work against it, and now they say that there are all sorts of cases that are out there and not under control. I truly hate vaccinating for no reason, and figure getting sick is a consequence of life, but maybe not vaccinating is not an option? Just wondering what ya'all are learning about it out there in education-ville. Thanks!
Here is what I heard on NPR:
ReplyDeleteThe Gov. does tests a sample of the nation to determine the number of flue viruses that are H1N1. The most recent study indicated that nearly all of the flu viruses now are swine flu. Thus, doctor's are pretty much diagnosing everyone with swine flue whether they know it or not.
I also heard (on NPR) that this strain of the swine flu is very treatable with normal treatments.
As far as vaccines go, I think that they have vaccines that are effective against the swine flu (I probably heard this on NPR too).
Now I want to hear what the super-duper smart boys and girls have to say.
hmm thats good to know. Jeff and I are supposed to be getting some kinda of Flu shots, they're for a study of some sort? not sure what it is all about really, but they are paying us both $400 each... so... I'm okay with it :o)
ReplyDeleteI still don't get how the are "All" swine flu. The CDC is saying that it's a Type A- which most flu's are- and they all have similar things, but it doesn't make sense to just generalize everything as H1N1. If it's all swine flu, then why are they putting out 2 vaccine's? It seems a little bit unethical to scare everyone by saying EVERYONE has swine flu.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I know is that it seems like thegovernment and popular media are using scare tactics to get everyone in America inocculated or just scared of the stuff. During the outbreak last year, or earlier this year, they emphasized that influenza and H1N1 virus were two very different things. Even during the hieght of the "pandemic" only around 300 people had died from the H1N1 virus. As Jenny has stated, and I can confirm, that 100 people die per day from normal influenza. If normal influzenza is considered under control, and poses mainly a threat to the very young and elderly, than I think it is preposterous that the government is making such a biig deal of the H1N1 virus. Even with the H1N1 virus, the average age of the deaths was 15. So, there may be a slight threat to the younger population, but keep in mind that influzenza still poses a bigger threat. I am not going to worry about H1N1 any more than I do influenza. I don't buy the government propoganda.
ReplyDeleteI have a really hard time with this because I don't know if I should worry or not and if I should worry, how much. I think what scares me the most is that I've heard (please tell me if this is wrong) that people who are middle age and supposedly healthy are the ones dying from it, not the very old and the very young. What can we do though to prevent us from getting it besides washing our hand all the time or not leaving the house. I'll be honest, this kinda stresses me out.
ReplyDeleteStatistics from last year from all the swine flu deaths put the average age at 15. So in my opinion that is mostly little children with a few scattered old people that pull the statistic way up. I can tell the government is succeeding in scaring the general public. That's disappointing.....
ReplyDeleteI think that everyone is in a tizzy over nothing...and I can't figure out why. Why hasn't the gov. come out with huge issues about influenza A before now, why are they declaring it a pandemic, and how come ALL influenza A's are now swine fly... and last- how are they getting away with it?
ReplyDeleteOkay here is a good article that I just read this moring from CNN. Basically they say not to stress about it, now days we are more prepaired for this than we were back in 1918. And the media are the ones who've been putting up such a scare since its been "fresh meat" for them, somthing to go crazy with and make everyone seem like they have to be glued to the TV to find out what will happen next, where will it strike next type of a thing. I'm not good at summarizing things, so here's the article:

Yeah Basically what Greg and Mike have been saying.
ReplyDeleteI WANT TO KNOW hOW i CAN GET PAID $400 FOR GETTING A SHOT!! MOM
ReplyDeleteI went back and read the articles that came out in April, and they stress that although swine flu is a TYPE of influenza a, there are MANY strains of influenza A.
ReplyDeleteMom- I am not sure that someone could PAY me to get a shot! You oughtta look at donating plasma, if you don't mind needles- they feed you and you can lay back and watch TV or read a book. AND get money- I keep trying to tell Blair he should do it so I can buy more scrap book stuff!
I absolutely hate shots. So... Not sure when they are conducting the study, ... but they're supposed to call us. I'm not excited about it... but I need my flu shots anyways.. so why not get paid for something you need?! I dont know if they are doing anymore for utah, but my step sister asked if I wanted to participate. So I'm hoping its gonna be here in a month or so... rather sooner the better.
