You guys are smarter then I am so...

I thought that I had this thing figured out, thought it was basic math manipulation, but 10 times now and I am perfectly stumped. I am sure with all the brainy siblings out there, someone will know how, and why. Please let me in on it, it's driving me crazy!

  1. Mike kind of figured it out...There are only a certain number of answers that are possible. For example, any number you pick in the 20s will subtract to 18. Any number in the 30s will subtract to 27. And so on. So they just assign each of those "correct" answers the same gift.

  2. Awesome, I didn't even get that far. Now how do they do the rest. I have done it approx 40 times and had it only miss once. Are you guys getting the same odds. Okay, you probably have other things to do then play this game over and over...but I don't...unless i want to do laundry, and I don't want to.

  3. Ooh! And I just figured out the reason behind THAT. So say you pick 37. You have to subtract 7, and then 3. So when you subtract 7, you go back down to the base number (30), and then subtract 3 to get 27. So whenever you subtract the second digit, you're going back down to the nearest 10, and from there, it will be the same every time (once you get back down to 30, you'll always subtract 3, thus getting 27 every time. If you start with a number in the 50s, you'll always get back down to 50 after subtracting the second digit, and then down to 45 after subtracting the 5). So that's how you know which answers will be right. They're all multiples of 9, which I'm sure is significant, but I don't know exactly how.

  5. I did figure it out, and I may have ruined it for those people that get automatic updates in their e-mails from the blog, sorry. But it is pretty ingenious (and I can't spell).
