USA vs. Spain

Greg is worried that if he blogs too much that everyone will be overwhelmed, and that will stop people participating. But I decided to post this one for him. Greg LOVES soccer. Today USA played Spain, which is the best team in the WORLD, and won. 2-0. BAM. Greg was and is so happy. I thought you all should know how happy this has made him!

  1. She's right! I do love soccer, but did not want the blog to become an overwhelming Greg-fest. But I am excited. It was a huge game for us and now we get to play in our first ever major international final. Yeah!

  3. For those who don't follow soccer, like me, I did a little reading. This will be old news for Greg, but others might enjoy. This was not for World Cub Quals or anything of the sort, instead, it was a tournament set up to prepare teams and organizers for the world cup next year. The United States is ranked 14th in the World right now, with Spain being number one. This victory advances the United States to the FIFA finals where they will play the defending chapions, Brazil. The game will be on Sunday at 12:30 pm. I find it pretty exciting because it shows our women's team isn't the only one that can win now. Perhapse we will gain more respect on the world soccer scene. Not to say that this means our team is better than it really is, we are still ranked 14th, but it just shows we have the ability to win.

  4. Well, while I am a devout American, proud to the core, I must admit that I cannot cheer for the Americans in the finals. My heart lies with the Brazilians. They're my home team. But I'm curious where exactly the game between Spain and the U.S. took place....

  5. It took place in South Africa, same place as World Cup 2010.

  6. Well, it's good to know that at least we beat them on neutral turf. I know there is a huge uproar from the Mexicans when we play them in the United States because we always play them in cold weather, which they are apparently unable to play in. That's why they claim we beat them every time we play them in the U.S. So, so make a long story short, I'm glad we did not beat Spain in Ohio. It's much more legit.

  7. Greg (or others) how do you feel about checking the score on the Sabbath and perhapse looking at highlights when you see someone scored? I've already made up my mind, so your comments won't affect me, just curriouse.

  8. Greg Said-

What I do and what I say are often totally different things. I try to be a purist when it comes to keeping the Sabbath day Holy. It is one of those commandments that should not be difficult because breaking it usually involves petty things that aretn's important in our lives: Reading an innapropriate book, engaging in sporting events, watching a non-Sunday Movie.

If we develop a pettern of piety on choices that should be easey, when difficult choices some along, we will be prepared to handle them. While it may not be a sin to check the score, strictly keeping the Sabbath day Holy can arm you with the fortitude to combat more difficult temptations in the future.

That being said, tomorrow, Hayley will probably ask what I am looking at on the computer and I will have to ashamedly tell her I am checking the score of the game. I will try, though, to stick to my ideals.

  9. If it were the Super Bowl- it would be on- and we would be the ones hosting the "reverent" party. In Blair's family, they don't have a problem watching stuff like that on Sunday. We've come to an understanding that we don't watch any TV before church, and we usually limit what we watch until America's Funniest Home Video's come on at 6:00, then it's open season. Usually we just watch old M*A*S*H reruns, or the good network. It's interesting blending two families traditions into one, and making it work.

  10. I didn't know anything about soccer until I got married, then it was an quick learn. In fact, my first experience with it came on our honeymoon. One night as we were getting ready for bed, Blair was flipping through the TV channels and found a soccer game. I dind't know anything about it, and valiantly tried to watch it, but eventually got bored and fell asleep. Next thing I know I am wide awake with my husband standing on the bed yelling "GOooooooOOOOOOOooooaaaaaaal-isto". In retrospect, it's prety funny. At the time, it was a bit alarming.
