"Uglies"

Greg said this is now a family blog, and so I thought I would enlighten the girls to a great series. I finished all these books in two days because they were so good. They are about an Utopian Society gone wrong. If you like "The Giver," then you should like these. They are also less gloomy than "The Giver." Happy Reading!
*Please blog on this blog, so we can all learn about things! Thanks!

  2. So, of the Giver, BYU put it on as a play a couple weeks ago and it was pretty dang good. Anyway, would you recommend me reading the Giver or one of these books? Which one pulls the heart strings more?

  3. Greg -

Read the Giver. You will never regret it.

  4. How on earth did you make is school without being forced to read The Giver, Brian?! I had to read the thing in sixth grade. I have to admit, though I haven't read the books I think I would be a pretty....

  5. Well, I was supposed to read it, sparknotes did wonders. I've got a few other books to read, I have to finish The Tao of Poo, the Alchamist, and then read The Life of Pi, before I get to that. We shall see.

Definitely read the Giver before the other books. It's a classic.

I have not yet read the Tao of Poo (although what you have told me sound interesting . . . is there a Tao of Pee?). I LOVED the Alchemist (read it in Debate Senior Year and have since read it twice) and Life of Pi was an interesting read. I love the first and last parts; it has a fair mix of philosophy for a fiction book.

  8. So, I totally thought the life of Pi was with like, fictional animals that could talk, but mom informed me otherwise. I'm not sure how interesting it sounds to me if it's just a boy talking to himself the whole time. In reading the Tao of Poo, i'm not as interested in it as I was when I was younger. The ideas seemed so new back then, and are very applicable to teenagers trying to find who they are, now, it just seems like it is common, practical advice. Perhapse I'm not reading into it deep enough. And Tao of Pee I have yet to see, but if it exists, I immagine it will be on the shelf next to "Everybody Poops"

Are you not as interested in reading the Tao of Poo or Life of Pi? I wasn't interested in the actual story of Life of Pi. In fact, I am quite glad it was not more than a couple hundred pages in the middle. I just enjoyed the first 100 and the last 20. That's all I needed. So, do you reccommend Tao of Poo, or not so much, or you can blog about it later it you wish.

  10. I have to admit, haven't heard of Tao of Poo, or Life of Pi, but in my house I am up to my ears in poo and pee and if anyone wants to come and read them= I will save one of Dane's Diaper for you!

I am way out of the reading for education- I read for sanity!

  11. ha ha, Greg and I were betting how long it would be somebody mentionned baby body fluids. :-)

  12. Well, I would then highly recommend the book Everybody Poops. It covers both topics of Pooh and Pi in the same book. Two birds with one stone....

  13. I was talking about this discussion earlier, and discovered that it's pronounced "pie", not Pee. Sigh- now I sounds so blonde and uneducated. Once upon a time, I used to be a little bit smart...ish.

i would also agree with mike- Everybody poops is a true classic, but you could also read "walter the farting dog". I would like to see someone write a college paper on it= I bet you could get a bunch of sybolism out of it, and would at least get a B+ for effort! Another one that I haven't read, but sounds intriguing would be
Serious Survival: How to Poo in the Arctic and Other Essential Tips for Explorers by Marshall Corwin. Leave it to a Piippo to take this discussion down the toilet (I am now banned from the blog?)

  14. lol, I have never heard of either book, but I have to ask if the second is really real. I am havf considering looking it up. The problem is, i'm sure it would be banned from the BYU library for inapropriate content. I'll have to find some other resources.

  15. It is a real book- check out Amazon, I imagine that BYU couldn't block it from there. The title did bring up some interesting discussion.
    Ah, FECES...
