One more question for everyone regarding the family reunion. Last year, the family voiced desire to shake up the family reunion venue a little. An idea that was brought up was the idea of camping. Liz and I are exploring this idea for the family reunion this year, and would love everyone's candid feedback. The campground would be safe and would be relatively close to the home, just in case anyone got sick or there was bad weather. We would get a little canopy and tables for all the traditions, such as candy jars, bingo, etc. and we would still be able to do slip and slide, baseball, marshmallow wars, etc. Each family would still be in charge of one meal. The biggest difference (obviously) would be that we would be sleeping in tents and enjoying the outdoors. Liz and I could help find tents, sleeping bags, and other supplies if you guys don't have them. So what I need is you guys' opinions (everyones' would be great!). And we would really appreciate honest opinions. We think it's a good idea (and frankly the only affordable alternative to mom and dad's house) but we want to know how you feel. You can send your opinion to my email if you hate the idea so vehemently that you don't want to post your feelings on the blog. Lastly, I know I go into business mode with planning, but I love you all and think we have the best little Bean family there ever was!
Here's my oppinion. Someone is going to find something wrong with anything you choose. Too far away, too hard with kids, to expensive, to hard, blah, blah, blah. Just plan it. As long as the reunion isn't a million miles away in a remote dessert everyone should be supportive and try their hardest. Camping can be harder with little one's but it's not impossible and it's not the end of the world. As long as it doesn't rain (like it did at the Mattson's last year) it will be fun. It takes more planning too (especially with the meals), but that's part of the fun:) Call me. -Steph-
ReplyDeletePretty sure our family has multiple tents. We also have a camp stove (propane, freestanding, not small green sit on a table kind). We can bring dutch ovens and anything else you might think you need. Camping sounds like a ton of fun. No tiny babies crawling on the ground, this sounds like the perfect year to try it!
ReplyDeleteLove it :) also, REI rents anything that you don't have, or I can rent it for cheap from the University of Utah. Jules and I are excited!
ReplyDeleteJeff and I have a tent and camp gear, we haven't really even used it, so I love the idea ofgoing camping!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd our Bean family really does rock!
DeleteOh and we have some supplies too, little propane gas thing we've never have used before, solar chargers, so if you want to charge you're phones it laptops you can! Ahhhhh so excited
