Plans for this weekend

Happy Monday Bean Family!

I thought I'd write a quick blog post with some important information for this week. We are so excited for Jeff and Cailey and excited that so much of the family gets to be together!

First, and most significant, is the sealing! The sealing will take place at 11:20 am Mountain Daylight Time. Anyone attending the sealing needs to be there at least 30 minutes early. 

After the sealing, Jeff and Cailey had the great idea of all going out to lunch together. We will be doing lunch at 1:00 pm at the Black Bear Diner in St. George. We have reserved a group room for all of us, so it should be a good time! With large groups, however, they will only give us one check. As such, we all need to bring cash to reimburse Mom and Dad, who will initially cover the check and then take our lunch payments individually.  Please click on the Black Bear Diner Logo to access a copy of their menu. Please take a look, decide in advance what you and your family would like, and bring enough cash to cover the cost of the meal, tax, and 20% gratuity that they automatically add on. I apologize if this is a hassle, but it's the option that involves the least hassle, so I appreciate all you guys' help!

For those of you who are able to go down to Vegas on Friday night, we will be doing a fun dinner/pool party at Greg's house. Greg has graciously offered up his pool and grill, but we are in charge of bringing our own grilling meat, buns, salads, etc. I haven't asked, but think Greg will be willing to offer water to us as well.

As far as I know, there are no other formal plans. Liz and I have to leave early Saturday afternoon, but everyone else is free to plan whatever they'd like while they are there. We look forward to seeing everyone and most especially to celebrating Jeff and Cailey.

St. George Plans

Hey Bean Family! Since most are working on plans for St. George, Liz and I thought it might be helpful for us to post what we have planned (as far as lodging and timing) so if anyone wants to stay where we stay or hang out, it can be done!

Here is our plan:

Thursday: Arrive in the evening some time. Get dinner, hang out with anyone who is there that night. We are staying in the Hilton Garden Hotel. We got a room for $80/night, so worth checking out if anyone wants to stay there with us!

Friday: Breakfast. Jeff and Cailey's sealing! (WOO HOO!) Drive to Vegas after the ceremony. Hang out at Greg's house (pool/grill party) for most of the night. Retire. Liz and I are staying at the Homewood Suites in Henderson that Friday night. It's about 9 minutes from Greg's house and rooms are $88 through Mom and Dad's travel site thingamajigger.

Saturday: Breakfast. Hang out with the family. Either at Greg's house or if we plan some sort of outing or activity that morning. We have to head out that afternoon to start heading home, as it's eleven hours and don't want to pull that in one day on the way home.


Those are our plans. If anyone wants to coordinate, please let me know. We are so excited for Jeff and Cailey and to see an family who can make it.

We had a really great time at the family reunion- thanks to everyone for making it a great time! We wanted to give everybody an opportunity to share pictures, so we created a family dropbox account where we can all load and view pictures.

Steps to sharing pictures:

1. Go to www.dropbox.com (click here)
2. Enter in email and password (this is a family account so we created a login and password just for this. The login email is bean.family.love@gmail.com and the password is bean.family)
3. Click on the folder "Family Reunion 2015"
4. Once inside the folder, there are 5 icons to the right of the folder title. The furthest left of these is "upload...". From here you can choose the pictures that you would like to upload.

Once pictures are shared, we will be able to view them and download if desired.

What a great time we all had at our Family reunion.  Especially a big thanks to Brian and Juliana for taking the bull by the horns and bringing us all together. But everyone helped so much and made it a TIME TO REMEMBER for years to come. We have the most magnificent family.

The Swimming Complex opens at 12:00 p.m. and has the following features:

o   Two tube slides, two speed slides, and two kids’ slides

o   Portneuf Kiddie Cove, a 92 degree beach entry pool with slides, sprays, and splash toys

o   AquaClimb wall

o   Four diving boards (1m & 3m)

o   25-yard swimming pool, 3.5’ to 12’ deep, 1-m diving board, and lap lane

o   10 person natural hot pool

o   50-meter Olympic sized pool, 2’ to 17' deep

o   10 meter diving tower with 3 platforms

Rates (day pass, slides included)

Sarah's Story......It's been a Year

Dear Friends and Family,
I can't believe it is already June 2.  This day has been looming over my head and creeping up.  It is not a day that I choose to remember, but here it is and I can't believe it, but so are we.   This has been an amazing year for our family and for Sarah.  Our lives have been turned upside down and inside out and we've landed on our feet.  We've settled into our new "normal" and even though life is still very hard, it is still very good!  Sarah is the most amazing girl.  I can't believe how well she has adapted into her new life and with such spirit and happiness.  She is courageous and so strong.
I've put together a video about her diabetes and her new life.  Please take the time to watch it with an open heart and an open mind.  This is our life every day, every hour.
We are walking on August 22, 2015 in Idaho Falls to support Junior Diabetes research.  For Sarah, it's something we have to do.  We need to support her and all the other children who deal with this disease.  I invite you all to save the date and to come and support her in this walk.
Please let me know if you plan to join us and I will order a shirt for you and tell you how to join our team.  Thank you for all your support.  We love you all.

Reunion Update

We are getting super excited for the approaching family reunion!

On May 12th we need to make our final payment on the house we will be staying at. If possible, we would like to receive everyone's share of the cost before that time. If not, we are shooting for June 1st as a backup. As a reminder it is $200/family.

John Jarvis Wainwright Jr. Born: 21 Mar 1821 Landelph, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom Christening: 17 Apr 1821 Saint John's, Longton, Staffordshire, England, United Kingdom Death: 11 February 1892 Croydon, Morgan, Utah, United States Burial: Croydon Cemetery, Morgan, Utah, United States John Wainwright Jr. was born 21 March 1822 at Lanedelph, Staffordshire, England. His parents were John Wainwright Sr. and Ellen Jarvis. His father was born in Hawarden, Flint, Wales and his mother was born in Lanedelph, Staffordshire. This area of England known as the Staffordshire Potteries or just "The Potteries" contains a special kind of clay that makes fine china for which England is famous. The first L.D.S. missionaries arrived in England in July 1837. Elder Heber C. Kimball, Orson Hyde and several others enjoyed great success in the areas north and east of Liverpool, particularly in Preston and Manchester. Elder Hyde returned to Nauvoo, leaving the missionary work under the direction of Willard Richards. On January 13, 1840, eight apostles again returned to England. At a conference held in Preston, it was decided that Elders Wilford Woodruff and Elder Theodore Turley would go to the Potteries where they were to preach and further organize branches of the Church (See "Harvest in Herefordshire" p. 46 of the Ensign, Jan. 1987.) Several months later, Elder George A. Smith wrote the following description of the area (See letter from George A. Smith to C.C. Waller, 6 June 1840 in Times and Seasons 15 Nov. 1840 p. 223 and "Harvest in Herefordshire" p. 46 of the Ensign, Jan 1987.) "The greater portion of China and Earthen ware sold in America is made in this district; about 70,000 persons obtain a good living when there is employment but consequently, in a state of starvation. I have seen delicate females gathering manure to get a living for their famishing children." And Wilford Woodruff records the following in his journal (See Wilford Woodruff journal, 22 Jan. and 26 June 1840 also see "Harvest in Herefordshire") "The Potteries include the following market towns Tunstell (Turnstall), Burslem, Hanley, Stoke, Laneend, and several other villages." During the times described, John was a young man of 18. It is recorded that Elders Woodruff and Turley found ready reception and acceptance of their message. Large numbers of people in Stoke-on-Trent and surrounding villages were baptized and organized into branches. Brigham Young and Wilford Woodruff met with the Saints of the Hanley branch in April 1840, where Brigham preached at two meetings and attended a third for the sacrament. Two years later, in 1842 at the age of 20, John Wainwright Jr. was baptized and become a member of the Hanley Branch. "Wilford Woodruff worked hard as a missionary in various towns around Stoke-on-Trent. Of particular interest was his relationship with William and Ann Benbow in Hanley. William was the keeper of a provision store at the Hanley Market Place. He and his wife had already joined the church through the efforts of Alfred Cordon and were strong in the faith. It was probably through the Benbows of Hanley that Wilford learned of John Benbow of Herefordshire and more particularly of the United Brenren, of which John was a member." "The day after he celebrated his thirty-third birthday, Elder Woodruff recorded in his journal, 'The Lord warned me to go to the south'. And so he began his eighty miles journey. Herefordshire would subsequently prove to be one of the most successful missionary areas in nineteenth-century Britain" (See "Harvest in Herefordshire"). There is no record of any other members of John's family being baptized. The desire to gather to Utah was strong with the new converts and was so with John. He began to work and save for the trip. He married Elizabeth Mellor on 8 June 1846. He was 24 and she was 44 years of age. On February 10, 1852, ten years following his baptism, John at age 30 and Elizabeth at age 50 with John Wainwright Sr. age 66 left the Hanley Branch to sail on the ship Ellen Marie. No family record is had of their voyage. It is recorded that they crossed the plains in the Abraham Smoot wagon train and that John Wainwright Sr., an invalid for 12 years, died August 27, 1852 at age 66 at the crossing on the Green River and was buried there. It is a desolate area out on sagebrush plains and not easily accessible. The church has fenced in the area from cattle and there are a number of pioneer graves there. It is recorded on temple records that John Wainwright Sr.'s baptism and endowments were performed by proxy in Feb 1890 in the Logan temple. John Jr. and Elizabeth settled in Salt Lake and on 23 July 1858, Elizabeth dies at age 56. They had no children and so John was left alone. One year later on 30 Aug. 1859 he married Margaret Aspey (Huxley), a widow, age 26. She had two children from her first marriage who were later sealed to them (11 Jan. 1895). This family was blessed with 7 children (five girls and two boys). The first three children were born in Salt Lake, one was born in Henefer, Utah and three were born in Croydon, Utah. Eliza Jane, our progenitor, was born in Croydon. John Wainwright Jr. was able to obtain a good education for a young man of his day. He taught school and also learned the trade of a potter. John taught school in Croydon. He as very fond of music and was called on to sing at many entertainments. He was also active in the church. He died at the age of 70 on 11 Feb. 1892 of dropsy and was buried in Croydon, Morgan County, Utah.

Funny......but not so Funny.

My family is the best!

I just realized that Josh's face has been added to the family picture!!  It's probably been on there for forever but I wanted to thank whoever did it.  It made Josh feel included and loved and I appreciate that.  I just hope you all know how much I love you.  I'm not the greatest at staying in touch all of the time but I sure love you!!

Family reunions are only as successful as the desire we have to spend time with one another. I am so grateful that I live in a family with such great people that I get excited to see t each reunion. How blessed are we that we live in such a family! In today's world, it is so rare to have siblings who care to keep in contact with one another so regularly after childhood. My patriarchal blessing tells me that if I do certain things, my children will always have a desire to take part in my family. As I think about our family, and the desire I have to take part in it, I can't think of many greater promises than one that my children will feel the same kinship to their family as I do to mine.

I'm grateful that I have amazing siblings, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and especially parents whom I am excited to see. I appreciate the sacrifices so many of you have made to try to keep the family close. I appreciate all the work Jen goes to create family trips. I appreciate the texts Stephani sends to the family. I appreciate the blog Greg created where we can all communicate. I appreciate Jeff and the extra time he spends with us since we live so close. I appreciate Mom and Dad who are willing to travel around to visit any and all of us. I appreciate that Mike organizes games of Magic for us little boys each week. I appreciate the fact that Alisha is committed to traveling so far so that we can spend some time with her and her family.

Overall, I'm grateful that each one of us has such a desire to be with the family that they are willing to sacrifice time and effort to make the family reunion a success. We are excited to see you all again and hope this reunion will help strengthen the family ties we all hold dear.

* Located a few miles east of Lava Hot Springs. Each family will have their own room and there will be a bed for each individual.
** We know this price distribution may not seem the most equitable, but after consulting with each of you, this price will enable each family to be able to attend.

It's okay if you don't blog

Blogging is hard.  It takes time and effort and energy, which I for one am lacking right now.  Plus, I feel like we all do a pretty darn good job of keeping in connection other ways.  Most of us are on Facebook and I know that we all post and comment and message to each other.  A few of us are on Instagram and that has been a good place to connect.  I may be the lone tweeter, but I also think several of us do Pinterest.  Additionally, I feel like we have a robust text string wherein we all communicate thoughts and feelings, either as a group or to each other individually (ahem ... Mom, Dad, get smart phones ...).

I guess the bottom line is, I don't think anyone should feel guilty for not posting on here.  I think there are quicker, more efficient ways of communicating and this may become more of a "message board."  I look forward to continued connecting with all of you through the various mediums we already do!

Family Reunion 2015

Hi family,

I sent out a text to all of you regarding the family reunion. I have outlined the basic premise of what we would do and when we would do it if I were king of the world and could make everyone's schedules and circumstances work out. Recognizing that that is not the case, I will do my best to explain the awesomeness of our proposal and hope that all of you will agree and move heaven and earth to make it happen :)

We are looking at renting a vacation home from Friday, June 12th through Sunday June 14th a few miles outside of Lava Hot Springs. Here is a link describing the home. In short, it offers:

• 6,600 square feet of living space
• 2.5 acres of lawn at the mouth of a canyon
• basketball court
• volleyball court 
• pool table
• 7 bedrooms 
• 6.5 baths
• two kitchens  

The costs would require a maximum of around $50 per person to cover both Friday and Saturday nights, assuming 80% of the family will attend (if everyone comes, costs will decrease). We might modify the fee a little to share the costs more evenly (a base rate for each family and then an additional fee for each person). Depending upon how this idea is received, we will give you more details in the future.

Schedule: This is very tentative and subject to change, but for those who could make it Thursday, we could spend the day in Idaho Falls. Friday would be used to go to the Lava Hot Springs (its just a few miles away from the  rental home), Saturday would be used for our normal family reunion activities with built in free time for all the amenities offered at the home (see above), and for those who could make it, we would go to church together in Lava the next morning.

What I need to know from you:

• Do these dates work? (we need to know ASAP because this house is hot and this is the only weekend left available)
• Are the costs feasible? If not, could a modified distribution make them feasible?
