Question

So let's say you're making the beloved Macaroni and Cheese for your kids for lunch. You get it all made and dished up and are just getting ready to serve it to your kids when you notice little bug parts stuck to just a few of the noodles. You know it probably won't hurt them but what do you do? Do you serve it to them anyway and pretend you didn't see them, or do you make them wait for lunch while you make a whole new box?

  1. Gross, I throw it out and call the 800 # for coupons for some free ones. I had to do that once.

  2. Kids eat bugs raw when they play outside anyway. Obviously it's a totally different situation, but in third world countries, sometimes you either eat the bugs with the food, or you don't eat. As long as they're not black widow parts, it's probably not a big deal.
But I also agree with Stephani...When I worked at BYU we had a problem with finding live bugs in some candy bars we were giving away for an employee recognition thing, so we called the company and they sent us coupons. Most companies will go to great lengths to convince you not to spread that kind of info around.

  3. Step One: Update your pantry.
Step Two: Check for bugs before making food.
Step Three: Somebody had a good point, let them eat the bugs.
    Step Four: Protein!!!

My mom used to find weeviels(sp) in pasta/mac & cheese boxes all the time, she would get out the few she saw, and the rest, if they were there, she just say, they wont hurt you, and they are just protein.
Jeff said that he used to find them all the time when he was a kid.

  4. Actually, this was a box that I just bought last week. I don't think a week would make that much difference but who knows.

  5. Bugs do not belong in food. I think I heard that somewhere.
